THIS SEMESTER IN BAND:
We will work on region music and scales, ensemble sound production, pep rally music, and memorizing the Fight Song (8th graders only).  8th graders will march in the Comal County Fair Parade!

SCALES:
Students will be expected to pass off  their Region Band scales  by December of this semester.
Please note the following concerning scale pass offs, which will continue to occur throughout the year.
  • Students who have not yet passed  scale(s) off by the due date will have a Missing grade placed in the grade book.
  • Scales which are passed off within 3 school days after the due date will receive a 70.
  • Students who do not pass off  scale(s) by the past-due date will still be expected to complete the scale(s), as they are accumulative.
  • Students are allowed to pass off scales early.  There are several students who will pass off the required scales for the entire semester in the first couple of weeks of school.
  • Students may come in and pass off scales during morning or afternoon tutorials, after sectionals, or on Fridays during class.  We do not listen to scales on Fridays after school.
SECTIONALS:
  • Weekly Sectionals begin September 10 and will last through November.
  • Students are expected to be in attendance at all sectionals for their instrument.
  •  I will not call  extra "Required" sectionals.
  • Please note: students who have sectionals on Friday mornings will collaborate with their sectional director to find another day to replace Friday, September 28 (County Fair parade).
  • Students will sometimes ask for additional help on music, which makes me happy; this is not required or graded, but I would encourage it!
  • Students who miss a sectional due to illness or other significant reasons will need to arrange with their sectional director to make the sectional up within a few days.
INDIVIDUAL PRACTICE TIME:
  • Students should be practicing at least 60-90 minutes per week, whether it is at home or in the band hall.  If your child says that they have no homework, there is always time  for practicing their Region band music and scales!
COMAL COUNTY FAIR PARADE:
For parents of 8th grade band students
  • See  information sheet regarding the Comal County Fair Parade.  It includes times and locations to meet/disassemble for the parade!  Your child will also have a paper copy of this (and in digital form) to show you.
  • Your child will also bringing home a paper to sign (either by paper or electronically) to let us know what your child will be doing upon completion of the parade. (See the bottom portion of the attached Comal County Fair Parade Information Letter to understand this)
