CK 12 Book:

Welcome to Geometry!

This course is designed to emphasize the study of the properties and applications of common geometric figures in two and three dimensions.  It includes the study of transformations and right triangle trigonometry.  Inductive and deductive thinking skills are used in problem solving situations, and applications to the real world are stressed.  It also emphasizes writing proofs to solve (prove) properties of geometric figures.

  1. Students will be present and on time every day (this means in their seats at the bell).
  2. Students will have their materials and completed assignments with them every day.
  3. Students’ iPads will be fully charged. There is NO charging of electronic devices in class.
  4. Students will follow directions upon first request.
  5. Students will be polite and respectful to every person in the classroom
  6. Students will accept responsibility for attending tutorials and doing test corrections as needed.

Tutoring is available every day of the week, before school at 8:00 and after school until 4:00.

  7. Students will refrain from eating in class.(NO FOOD!) Water is allowed only in a clear bottle.
  8. Students will comply with policies set forth in the NBHS handbook.

Late Work

The geometry department follows the NBHS handbook.  Assignments may be turned in one day late for a maximum of 70.  Assignments are not accepted more than one day late.

If students are absent, they have the same number of days that they were absent to make up assignments.  If students are absent on the day of the review for a test, they are still responsible for taking the test.  If they are absent on a test day, students will be given the test the next day that they are in class.

Electronic Devices

The only allowed electronic device is the school iPad, and students are expected to only be using it for class assignments.  (There is to be no listening to music, playing games, streaming movies, etc.)

NO CELL PHONES!  Cell phones must be in backpacks during class.  If a cell phone is visible, it will be taken up by the teacher and returned at the end of class.  Continued cell phone use during class will incur further consequences according to the school cell phone policy.

Grading Policy

Major Grades – Tests and Projects –60%

Daily Grades – Warm-Ups, Classwork, and Quizzes – 30%

Homework – 10%

A student may do test corrections and retest on any test on which he or she scores lower than 70.  Corrections must be done prior to the retest.  Corrections and retests are only available for major tests. A student has ONE WEEK from the time the test is returned to get the corrections done and retest.

  1. Spiral Notebook for homework
  2. Folder or section in a 3-ring binder for daily work, etc.
  3. Pencils (Homework is not accepted in pen.)
  4. Red Pens for grading
  5. 3 x 5 Notecards for vocabulary (1 package)
  6. Charged ipad
  7. Box of tissues (optional)

Class work and homework

Notes will be completed on the iPad, as well as some activities and classwork. Other daily assignments will be completed on paper and kept in their math folder.

Homework is assigned on a daily basis and checked at the beginning of each class for a completion grade.  During that time, homework is discussed and questions are answered.  Homework will be done in the spiral notebook, and ALL WORK must be shown for full credit.

Good evening!  We are in the final 5 day countdown until Thanksgiving break!  Progress Reports will be available in txConnect this week.  Be on the lookout for more information regarding Progress Reports from the district.
This week in geometry we will be finishing our unit over Similarity (Unit 5).  The Unit 5 Test will be on Friday, November 16.  Any student who misses the test will be required to take it on Monday, November 26, following the Thanksgiving Break.  Here is what our schedule for the week looks like:
Monday: 5.4 Proportionality (HW due Tuesday)

Tuesday:5.5 Indirect Measurement (HW due Wednesday); Unit 4 Re-test Deadline today at 4:00 pm

Wednesday: 5.6 Geometric Mean (HW due Thursday)

Thursday: Unit 5 Test Review

FridayUnit 5 Test

Reminder:  Students need to come to class every day with their HW completed in their spiral, folder, pencil, red pen, and charged ipad.  Students must show all work in their spiral, as well as on their quizzes and tests, in order to receive credit!
