Information

Absences

If your child is ill and will not be able to attend school, please call the office and let them know.  When your child returns to school, you will need to send a note explaining the absence.

Transportation

If your child will be going home from school a way that is different from the way that he/she usually goes home, please send me a note or call the front office before 2:30pm.  I will not be able to send your child home a different way if I do not have written notice or office confirmation.

Pick-up Procedure

Car rider- Parent stays in the car and picks up through car rider lane. You will need a car rider sign.

Walkers- Your child walks themselves off campus without an adult.

Parent Walk-up- Parent will walk up to the school in the designated area and your child

will be dismissed to you. You will need a car rider sign.

Bus/Daycare- Students ride the bus or daycare van.

School Rules and Positive Behavior

WSE has “WISE” rules expectations in place.  Each child should abide by these expectations.  Our school expectations are:

At all times I will be "WISE”:

W- well-mannered

I- in control

S- safe

E- empathetic

Students can earn WISE tickets for showing WISE behaviors.  Weekly classroom drawings and monthly school wide drawings are held where the students can earn a reward.

Take-Home Folder

I will be sending home a take-home folder everyday with your child.  Please check the folder daily for any notes from the school or me, your child’s work, and to sign the behavior calendar.  This folder will be a great tool for teaching your child responsibility, as it needs to be returned daily.

Graded Work Folder

Every Tuesday, along with the Take-Home Folder, the Graded Work Folder will be sent home with your child.  Please empty the folder and review the work with your child. It is important that it is signed and returned on Wednesday.

Money

Please place any money that you send to school in an envelope with your child’s name, my name, and what the money is for, on the envelope.  This way the money will get turned in to me if it is lost, and I know who it came from if I find it in our room.

Lunch

Our lunch time is 10:52-11:22.  If you would like to join your child for lunch for a special occasion, you may meet us in the foyer.  There is a table set up on the stage in the cafeteria for you to enjoy lunch with your child.  No buddies will be allowed to sit at the tables on stage and no parents are allowed to sit at the student tables.  Thanks for all your help!

Birthdays/Parties

If you would like to send something simple in honor of your child’s birthday cookies or healthy treats are best.  Please remember they must be store bought and not homemade.  If birthday invitations are sent to school, every child in the room must receive an invitation or all girls/all boys.  We will have two school parties which include Christmas and Valentine’s Day.  More information will be given closer to those dates.

Reading at Home

I cannot stress enough how important it is for you to read with your child every night.  I will be providing your child with structured instruction during school, but they need the reinforcement and practice they can get by reading at home daily with you.  This also will provide you with valuable quality time you can spend with your child!  In the back of your child's folder you have access to RAZ kids and Istation.  In addition to these books, please read stories to your child from your own home library. Students are required to read 100 minutes per week. Make it an enjoyable and fun experience! J

Book Orders

Once a month I will be sending home the Scholastic book orders.  These are wonderful, inexpensive books that you can purchase for your own home library.  If you would like to place an order, you may order online via the Scholastic website and enter our class code.  Our classroom is able to receive free books and teaching materials because of your purchases.

I hope you will find this information helpful in making our year run smoothly.  I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
