Math Fluency

Did you know that just by knowing your basic math facts you are freeing up brain space to solve harder problems? It's true, research shows that acquiring fluency and automaticity of basic math facts opens the door for complex and higher level thinking. Future success in math is dependent on knowing the basic math facts. You can help your child progress and learn faster by practicing at home. You can easily make flash cards with index cards. Here are my recommendations for what types of facts to focus on in each grade level:

1st grade- addition

2nd grade- addition and subtraction

3rd grade- multiplication

4th grade- multiplication and division

5th grade- multiplication and division
