Third Grade ELA/SS
August 20, 2016
I want to welcome you and your child to our third grade classroom! My name is Lisa Tschoepe. I am your child’s Language Arts and Social Studies teacher this year. I have been in education for 20 years, and this is my second year at Lamar. I am so excited about getting to know you and your child!
This week we will be learning some very important words. On Monday & Tuesday, we will learn all about “Expectations.” Wednesday, we will begin building our Classroom “Community” and Thursday we will focus on “Cooperation.” At Lamar, we believe in giving our best in all we do, by being Respectful, SAFE, and Responsible. Every lesson and activity this week, will emphasize these special words and what they mean to us. Together, we will build toward success with this strong foundation.
As a parent, I will be asking you to partner with me in the education of your child. Every day, the students will be responsible to travel with their agenda. I will make any notations you should know about. Please make sure you see their agenda every night, so I know we are communicating with homework, projects or behavior notations. As always, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Homework this week will include signing a CHAMPS Classroom Contract. We will create and sign a contract together. Then, we will send it home for you to sign and return. I am also asking for parents to help their child find some special pictures for them to bring in. We will be personalizing our Writer’s Notebooks! Snapshots of your child, their favorite pet, best friends and family seem to be favorite choices. Ticket stubs, stickers, or any other item that might help personalize their notebooks will help reflect your child’s unique personality. Make sure these are copies you do not need back, as the students will be using glue.
Lastly, we have a general supply list that NBISD publishes. We will not be needing the binder, however, we will be needing another folder and a spiral. This year, your child will need their own personal pencil box or bag. Please help them make sure it stays stocked with colored pencils,
glue sticks, scissors, highlighters, crayons, erasers and a small sharpener. Markers are optional. I will collect pencils and replenish throughout the year, as well as overflow items. This year we will each be assigned an ipad, so it is imperative that your child always have earbuds, that they will be responsible for. Most kids either keep them in their backpack or in their pencil box. I have had some parents inquire about a donation wish list. I am trying to collect a class set of clipboards. We also need flashlights and batteries.
Looking forward to a fabulous year!
