Sharie Adamson, Ed. D.

Elementary Reading Interventionist

Hello! My name is Sharie Adamson, and I'm honored to be part of the Carl Schurz Elementary family!
I've had the privilege to serve as an educator for 31 years. My career began as a first grade teacher in 1989, and from there, I taught second grade and worked as a reading specialist. At that time, I returned to the university to earn my graduate degree in reading education. My husband and I started a family and began raising our children, so I started teaching English as a second language and literacy courses to parents part-time in order to have more time for my family. Over the years, I've served as a parent helper in my children's classrooms. About 12 years ago, I started teaching higher education courses focused on teacher education, curriculum development, and developmental reading. From there, I felt a calling to earn my doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction to better serve my students. I've worked with many universities and at the community college level in various capacities related to education. On a personal note, we adopted three of our children, one of whom has cerebral palsy and is an English learner, so I've been blessed in learning more about individuals with special needs and the adoption community. I am fortunate to share my heart, education, and experiences from a teacher and parent's perspective with all of you!
